We’re excited to be moving forward with a project we’ve been working on behind the scenes for a little while now, and finally at the stage to pull it all together. We’re pleased to announce Poetry:Catharsis.
April is National Poetry Month/National Poetry Writing Month. This year, we are offering a series of poetry writing workshops that will culminate in a published book and performance opportunity. We invite Black survivors of violence living in and around Portland, OR, to come write with us.
So, here are the details:
- weekly workshop sessions in April, four in all
- the opportunity to collaborate on a published book after the workshops
- a reading and book launch at the end of May
Workshops are planned for 2-4pm on April 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th. Participants are welcome to do as much or as little work on the book as they would like, from submitting a poem to two to learning about the publishing process to helping design or market. (Submission to the collection and work on the book are not compulsory.) Folks whose work ends up in the collection will get paid.
If you are a Black survivor, located in the Portland-metro area, and would like to participate, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know you’re interested. We look forward to working with you!
